The view from above on a pretty clear day
Also known as Glacier Lagoon, this area borders Vatnajökull National Park in southeastern Iceland. On a non-windy day Its still, blue waters are dotted with icebergs from the surrounding Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier, part of larger Vatnajökull Glacier. We had a lot of wind so the water was a little choppy. I booked us a tour on the zodiac, and the last one of the day, to try and capture the best light, and get us close to the Glacier. We both thought this would be super cool (see what I did there?). As luck would have it, mother nature threw a bunch of wind at us, and even snow in the mountains. Our tours started getting either rescheduled, or cancelled all together. Our snowmobile excursion, slated for the next day? Cancelled. Our zodiac tour (on this day) cancelled! My travel mate and I were bummed but decided to tour around this lagoon (on foot) to at least enjoy the view, even if we were "blown away". While snapping some photos, what's this we see? There's a boat going out! "What??" "I thought all tours were cancelled!!" We hightailed it back to the tour check in and announced "we want in!". The tour guide says, "alright, you're on the next boat, and it's on us!". Hey now! Here is an image shot at the time I wanted, of the iceberg I wanted. We ended up on a larger boat but it was practically empty so we were able to move around freely. Things sometimes do work out. Go for it.
