The dunes at Glamis are beautiful and ready for your toes (or ATV if that's your thing).
The gondola has existed in Venice since the 11th century, being first mentioned by name in 1094. It is estimated that there were eight to ten thousand gondolas during the 17th and 18th century, but there are only around four hundred in active service today, with virtually all of them used for hire by tourists.
Baldassare Longhena's magnificent basilica is prominently positioned near the entrance to the Grand Canal. Before 'La Salute' could even be started, in 1630, at least 100,000 pylons had to be driven deep into the barene (mudbanks) to shore up the tip of Dorsoduro.
